WINTER 2011
The third annual
PROBIZ Managers' Cup, which
took place on November 16th at West Bromwich Albion
saw a group of eight LMA members compete against one
another in a six-a-side tournament organised as part of
the Prince's Trust Football Initiative programme.
The eight managers, each of whom took charge of a
squad of 16-25 year olds, were Aidy Boothroyd, Alan
Curbishley, Brian Laws, Peter Reid, Paul Simpson,
Gordon Strachan, Walter Smith and Dave Jones.
The players, who are based in the Midlands, are
currently completing Prince's Trust programmes, gaining
key workplace skills including confidence, motivation,
communication and teamwork. The tournament gave
them a boost in all of those areas as well as an insight
into how top footballers are coached and managed.
The tournament was won by the team managed by
Dave Jones (pictured with his victorious team, above
right). Jones poured praise on his young charges,
saying: "I think they were absolutely superb. They fully
deserved their victory and they should be very proud
of themselves. The biggest thing is that they all said
together that they achieved this by working as a team."
