Team GB’s first participation
in an Olympics football
tournament since the 1972
games took a significant step
closer with the announcement
of the coaches for both the
men’s and ladies teams, Hope
Powell and Stuart Pearce. The
two teams will play their group
games in late July and early
August in London’s Wembley
Stadium, the Millennium
Stadium in Cardiff and Old
Trafford, Manchester. For those
looking for omens, Great Britain
won the first ever Olympics
football tournament in 1908 –
a year when the event was
also staged in London.
